What the river flows mean:

2nd Connecticut Lake Dam - A high flow for this section would be 400 cfs, while the most desirable flow during the spring salmon run in May is around 250-300 cfs. The higher flow brings the smelt and salmon in, but makes wading more difficult. Experienced waders only when this section is running fast! During the summer months, this section usually flows below 100 cfs, making it easier to wade, but not so good for fishing.

1st Connecticut Lake Dam - A high flow for this section is 250 cfs or higher. It is still possbile to fish at this flow, but it is almost impossible to safely wade at this flow. At 200 cfs, the flow is still high, but the river can be waded with care and the fishing is excellent at this height, especially with nymphs and streamers. The most desirable flow for fishing dry is 150 cfs, and the river is confortable for wading. The river is rarely lower than this during the summer months, but if it is, the fishing will be challenging as the fish can see you a little better with the slower water speed.

Murphy Dam at Lake Francis - A perfect flow for fishing and wading this section is around 300 cfs, though due to rain storms, it is often run higher than this in the summertime. In the spring, it is often run lower than this because of the spring runoff that is happening in town and downstream of Pittsburg.
