Tall Timber's 2000 Fishing Highlights

Tall Timber Lodge strongly encourages all anglers to practice Catch & Release.
In the immortal words of Lee Wulff, "A good gamefish is too valuable to be caught only once. The fish you release is your gift to another angler."

April 28 - Our loooong winter is finally over as the ice goes out on Back Lake.  Let the fishing begin!
May 7 - Jim MacLean was surprised to find this 25" 4+ lb. laker on his line at the Magalloway stretch of the Connecticut River.  Jim got him with one of his "secret" flies ...

May 11 - The Connecticut River is flowing fast and furious following four days of continuous rain.  After a promising start to the salmon season, the high water will put a temporary hold on river fishing for several days.
May 13 - Chris Weimer (left) and Scott Dombkowski with their beautiful Back Lake brookie and brown.  Chris's brookie weighed in at 2.11 lbs., while Scott's brown was just under 2 lbs.

May 22 - Back Lake heats up!  Sandy and Al Sherman score with yellow hornbergs and golden demons, while Walter Rundlett (right) hooked this 3.4 lb. brookie on a super duper.

May 28 - Eventhough the weather was chilly, the fishing wasn't.  Scott Doughty caught his beautiful  1.5 lb. brown on the yellow hornberg - one of Back Lake's old favorites.
June 3 - John Saia takes son Sean and friends Rob Carpenter and Mike Lemon to the river in search of trophy trout and salmon.  Rob one ups the old master by landing several nice salmon on beadhead nymphs.  See you in September John!
June 3 - Heidi Chester has some serious bragging rites for the next year after hauling in this 21" 3 lb. 6 oz. brown on the family outing at TTL.   Better luck next year fellas!

June   - With the assistance of veteran TTLer Dan Bisson, first timer Tom Irwin landed this lunker Back Lake brown on a size 16 sulpher comparadun.  This one was so big, I nearly forgot about Tom's head!

June 28 - Back Lake's hex hatch slowly commences.   Light cahills are also doing the trick on the lake's late evening action.
July 18 & 19 - Kevin O'Keefe, under the expert guidance of Tim and Lisa Savard, lands and releases many brookies, rainbows, and salmon in the Trophy Stretch.  The river fishing is at its peak right now.
August 19 - Taking the expert advice of Tom Caron (really Cindy Sullivan), Peter Reuss and Peter Richardson score with bead head black and olive woolybuggers on Back Lake, landing several 15" rainbows. Finally one of my recommendations paid off!
September 11 - Thanks to a string of cold nights and picture perfect days, the trout fishing at Back Lake has heated up again.  Art and Kay Hartnett catch and release many beautiful brookies and rainbows on golden demons and woolybuggers before bidding adieu to us until next May.
September 14 - Trout and salmon better beware: Jon Howe (2000 Guides' Show Fly Casting Champeen) has pitched his tent in Pittsburg - full time!
