Bird Watching in Pittsburg’s
Connecticut Lakes Region
Pittsburg’s
diversity of wildlife habitat, mix of hardwood and boreal forest, remote ponds
and lakes provide the perfect surroundings for many species of birds and
waterfowl. This area is home to the Bald Eagle, Osprey, Great Blue Heron, Ruffed
and Spruce Grouse, American Woodcock and wild Turkey, just to name a few. The
Common Loon can be found on most of the lakes along with many varieties of
waterfowl, such as the Canada Goose, Mallard, Merganser and Wood Duck. Along the
Connecticut River, it is common to see Cedar Waxwings, Great Blue Herons,
Swallows and Belted Kingfishers. View a Pittsburg Bird Watcher's Checklist here!

The Bald Eagle and Osprey are frequent visitors on the lake - keep an eye out as
they swoop down in search of a fresh trout dinner. Families of Mallards,
Mergansers and Loons also spend their summers here. Black-capped Chickadees,
Pileated Woodpeckers and Northern Flickers are often seen while walking along
Beach or Spooner Roads.
Don't forget the hummingbirds that are always
hanging around the lodge!
Pack your binoculars and field guide and enjoy Pittsburg’s birds, abundant wildlife and beautiful scenery.
