When most people think of Pittsburg, the region’s great fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling immediately come to mind. However, ATV Riding, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing and bird watching in the summer, and wilderness cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, are also gaining in popularity.

Tall Timber now offers daily passes including greens fee and cart rental on any day of the week for the classic Panorama Course at the renowned Balsams Grand Resort in Dixville Notch, NH. At a cost of only $60, this is a great deal on playing a wonderful old Donald Ross course. Talk to Tom or Judy at the front desk to get your passes and set up tee times. June 7 8th Annual Great North Woods Fishing Derby
Held in conjunction with New Hampshire’s Free Fishing Day, is an opportunity for family fun and friendly competition at Pittsburg’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd Connecticut Lakes and Lake Francis. Registration, weigh-in, trophy presentations at Lake Francis Park on River Road. Trophies awarded. Categories in the adult division include longest and heaviest for rainbow, brook and brown trout; longest and heaviest for any fish for children. There will be hourly drawings for cash and prizes from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Adults $10 & $5 for Children 12 and under. The Fishing Derby is hosted by the North Country Chamber of Commerce. June 22 Fiddlers' Contest
at Lancaster Fair Grounds begins at noon (registration for those entering contest begins at 10 a.m.). Hear other fiddlers or bring your own instruments - fiddles, guitars, spoons & spend the afternoon jamming or looking over the classic cars on display. July 6 Poore Family Homestead Historic Farm Museum "14th Annual Open Barn & Celebration". Celebrating our founder's 120th birthday. Free birthday cake and lemonade 10:00am - 4:00pm. July 1 - Outdoor Concert featuring bluegrass music by "Blake Mountain Band". Music begins at 1:00pm. Donations $8.00 for adults, accompanied children under 12 free. "Bring a chair or blanket."

August 1 Sugar-On-Snow - At Fletcher Park - Canaan, VT. Sponsored by Grace United Methodist Church.
August 1-3 39th Annual Canaan Men's Softball Tournament in Canaan
 
29 teams will start play on Friday at 6 pm. Saturday & Sunday games will start at 8 a.m. Final game on Sunday night at 8 p.m. Food booth will be open all weekend with all proceeds going to the Canaan Men's Softball League. Info 802-266-8900 
August 14 Great North Woods Riders ATV Club Meeting

August 16 82nd Annual Pittsburg Old Home Day - 11am: Parade - Noon: Dinner sponsored by Pittsburg High School Senior Class - 1pm: Entertainment. Flea Market. Craft tables & Music throughout the day. Dance at Pittsburg School in the evening.
August 22-24, 2008 18th Annual North Country Moose Festival
With over 3000 visitors passing through the gate, the 2007 Moose Festival was the most attended event in the north country. The three day celebration of our furry mascot featured entertainment, great food, a moose calling contest, an auto show, Mardi Gras Parade, dances, moose cruises, a street fair, and a multitude of moose memorabilia. September 13 Two-Rivers Ride for Cancer
20-mile Bike Ride beginning at Lake Francis Boat Ramp, Pittsburg, 10 a.m.. Registration 9 a.m.; 7-mile Bike Ride beginning at County Farm Road, Stewartstown, Registration 10:45 a.m., ride at 11:15 a.m., $50 fundraising per entrant minimum, helmet required, participant under 18 years of age must have parent's signature. Individuals and relays-4 person and 2 person 
3-Mile Fun Walk-
Staring time: 12:00 (noon) at the last relay point, on Route 26 just west of Carleton Hill Rd.   Festivities at the Finish Line ( at skating rink on Colby St.) : Live, bluegrass music, food for sale at Kiwanis Snack Shack, free massages for participants, cold drinks, raffle & awards presentation. Preregister by Sept. 13 for $20.; after Sept 13 for $25.; only those who pre-register are guaranteed a  T-shirt. Proceeds benefit several local charities.
